Make your phone behave.

Ten minutes at home beats a dead dot mid-game. Android ships with your dot's three natural enemies - permission prompts, battery 'optimizers' and app sleep - and every brand hides them somewhere else. This is the whole checklist.

The two permissions that matter.

  1. Location: all the time, precise

Settings > Apps > Phalanx > Permissions > Location - pick 'Allow all the time' and keep Precise location on. 'While using the app' freezes your dot the moment the screen sleeps.

  2. Camera: while using

Only for the QR join - 'While using the app' is exactly right. Phalanx never touches it outside the scanner.

  3. Notifications: on

The persistent notification during a game is proof your dot is broadcasting. No notification means no broadcast - don't silence the one warning light you have.

Whitelist Phalanx from the battery police.

Every Android brand ships an 'optimizer' that kills background apps to flatter its battery stats. Phalanx runs a foreground service - the polite, documented way to share position - and aggressive phones kill it anyway. Whitelist it once and it stays whitelisted:

  • SamsungSettings > Apps > Phalanx > Battery > Unrestricted. Then Settings > Device care > Battery > Background usage limits - Phalanx must NOT be in Sleeping or Deep sleeping apps; add it to Never sleeping apps.
  • XiaomiSettings > Apps > Manage apps > Phalanx - Battery saver: No restrictions, Autostart: on.
  • HuaweiSettings > Battery > App launch > Phalanx - switch to Manage manually, all three toggles on.
  • Pixel / stockSettings > Apps > Phalanx > App battery usage > Unrestricted.

And on every phone: don't swipe Phalanx out of recent apps mid-game - that kills the service no matter what you whitelisted.

iPhone? On the way.

The beta is Android-only for now, but the app is cross-platform underneath and the iOS build already compiles - what's left is Apple's paperwork and a device pass. If your whole team is on iPhones, follow the field test and we'll tell you the moment it lands.
